Life as a Mom is so wonderful. Just over a week ago I got to celebrate another Mother's Day with my little man. He makes being a Mom so much fun. He is a loving and caring son. I was half a sleep, but can hear what was going on around me little bit before our alarm went off last Sunday morning. I heard him go to the bathroom (heard the water running when he was washing his hands). He walked into where I was sleeping. He leaned over whispered in my ear Happy Mother's Day and I love you. Then he gave me a kiss on the cheek. (AWE MOMENT). I thank God every day for letting me spend another day with my little man.
Joel has also been helping more around the apartment as he is getting more responsible, and can do more. It gets to be comical at times for sure. Just the other day he was helping me wash dishes. Next thing I knew we were having a water fight with the sprayer. Yes floor and everything including us was wet. Sometimes you just have to let go and have a little fun. We may of had a big mess, but it was worth it to hear my son's little giggles (you have to just love his giggle).
Last week I went and spent most of the day with my son and his kindergarten class. It is amazing on what they are doing, and how much they are learning since the last time I was there. Listening to not only my son but other of his classmates read, and answer questions is remarkable. Compared to what I did at that age from what they are doing is totally different. They were having a fun day in the afternoon and an assembly with the Blank Park Zoo. Lunch may of sucked (what do expect for school food), but the afternoon was a blast. The kids got to go outside and play at various stations that was set up for them from a bubble station, relay races, and even tug-a-war. I had a blast watching Joel play with his buddies at the different stations. My son only did a select few. Then they had the assembly. The people from the zoo brought a python, baby alligator, and a red tail hawk. Yes, I was a little squeamish when they brought out the snake, but kept my composer for the children. If they saw fear in me then they would fave fear too. Basically I had to put on my big girl pants. When they brought out the Hawk they asked the children a question: "Why do hawks sit so high in trees and things?" They called on Joel. In my head I thought here we go a story of the hawks he has seen. Nope he surprised me and his teachers. He said, "They sit so high so they can see the little animals like mice on the ground, and they swoop down and get them to eat." Way to go Joel! I am so proud he wasn't afraid to talk in a large crowd, and he knew the answer. Joel loves to learn.
Ealier this month we had another milestone in a way. My little man loves to read. Eventhough he is tons of books at home he loves to check out books from the library. When children reach kindergarten they are able to get their own library card at the public library. I wanted to wait until Joel could proove to me he was ready and responisble to have his own card. The time finally came. He now is a proud owner of his own library card. Even if it is in my purse. So about every two weeks we go to the library and check out books. I don't know who was more thrilled him or his godfather (avid reader) that Joel got his own library card. Watch out 1st grade teacher Joel will be busy reading the summer away in his free time.
This spring has almost flown by us already. Joel has spent the last few weeks playing U6 soccer on Saturday morning. He is doing very well. He was really happy to play this season because one of his buddies is on the team. They have won and loss games (dont really keep score though). Joel has even scored some goals this season. He is getting a little more aggressive as he is leaning the games and techniques. This is his last season on U6. In the fall season he will move up to U8. His coach said this last weekend that Joel and his buddy are ready for the next level. The 31st is Joel's last game for the spring. Big thank you to his coach who has been with him the last two seasons. Can't wait to see what fall soccer brings.
So, what is next for our little family. SUMMER!!! Joel gets done with his first year of school May 28th. We have plans to camp, sight see, go swimming, and do other fun activities. We are mostly looking forward to what the Lord has planned, and spending some quality family time.
