Spring Break Fun

Last week was such a joy. The weather was so nice out. Spring time weather even hitting into the 80's degrees. Not only was the weather remarkable last week, but it was in time for my son's week of Spring break. We were able to get outside many times. We took walks, discussed about nature, did a volcano outside, cleaned out the garden, and even made a pop rocket car, and even got to go to the park with my niece. Oh, we even got to go to a birthday party and swim.
Joel had a lot of fun swimming and being with his buddy for his birthday. It was so much fun to watch Joel swim. He is really getting the hang of it. Because he was now tall enough, and had his swim vest on he was able to go on the big slide all by himself. I still stayed at the bottom to catch him even with him having the swim vest. The swim vest wouldn't let him go under that much. It just would pop him back up again.Joel had so much fun that he didn't want to leave. When we left Joel said he was hungry so we went to MD's for him. He ate all of his meal. Before we left DSM he was fast asleep.
One day during the spring break we decided to do something fun for a science experiment. Joel love volcanoes since he watch it on tv. So, first we took Baking Soda mixed it with white vinegar. Then we took Baking Powder and White Vinegar as well. Joel loved it, and so did I. He loves learning new exciting things. We will have a video of it on the bottom of this blog of it.

The same day we also went on a nature walk. We wanted to find signs of spring. As well as find different living things that live in nature. It was such a blast to do.
Grant it, I did get wore out, because I don't handle a lot of walking due to my congestive heart failure (I am only allowed so far to walk). It was all worth it though to see my son learn and have fun. He not only say what they were, he described details like with the worm (lives in ground, brown, slippery, and use to catch fish). With the flowers he said their color, how they smelled, needs sun and water to grow. With the robin he said that it ate worms, lives in nests high in the tress, described their color as well.
I told Joel that we would go on another nature walk later in the spring to see even more of nature. He was so excited that we would do it again. He told me that he wants his own camera to take picture of things he finds. So, I guess I need to find a child's camera that can with stand Joel. I do have to say he is good with my camera, and does take some really good pictures himself.
The next day we worked on our flower garden getting all the dead flowers and weeds out of there. It was so much fun. My knees hurt from it still a little two days later. Joel loved that we found more worms. He had fun playing in the dirt (which about 1 1/2yr ago he had nothing to do with dirt or mud). His shirts was so dirty from it, but nothing that "Spray and Wash" couldn't handle. He also got a treat. The ice cream truck came around for the first time of the year. Guess who beg to get something? Yep it was Joel. I didn't mind him having anything because he was such a good boy helping in the flower garden. I told him that the week of Easter if it is nice we will plant seeds and plants. He loves growing things so he was excited. He asked why not now, but I told him it just isn't time yet.
One day we decided to do another science experiment since Joel loves that kind of stuff. We took his garbage truck stuck a bottle of coke in the back of it, and then put some mentos in the coke. The combination of the coke and mentos made the truck move. Joel loved it so much, and wanted me to do it again but I had no more mentos or pop.
We tried baking powder and vinegar, but messed up some where so that didn't work out. I told Joel that we will have to do it again sometime, but this time use a 2liter of diet coke instead for a bigger car rocket. He said, "Does that mean bigger boom?" I said yes. He goes, "lets go to store now."

We got to spend the afternoon at the park with my niece, and my step-dad. The kids had so much fun playing with each other as cousins. They really haven't had the chance to bond. There is a year and half that separates the two of them. Watching them play brought memories back of childhood. Playing with my brothers as well as spending time with our cousins. It is hard when families grow a part from one another for many reasons. Really wish at our family was closer
Like when I was a child. That way my son could have that, but it is okay. We have our own traditions now.
Any way the kids enjoyed playing at the big park in Winterset. Joel was able to teach my niece a few tricks, and she did the same.
Last we took the kids to Clark's Tower to climb to the top, and look down across the land. Joel had been up there many times, so he was kind of like my nieces tour guide. The kids had lots of fun that is for sure. Can't wait to get the kids together again soon.

We also went and had end of Spring Break movie night with my son's godparents. He also got to spend Sunday with them, and I got some quality me time. Joel had a great spring break over all. Even if he got in trouble a few times. But over all it was so much fun.
